After Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Doncaster in the opening SkyBet League One fixture, manager Gary Johnson was left disappointed with collective mistakes.

Strikes from Curtis Main, Harry Forrester and Theo Robinson condemned the Glovers to an opening day defeat at Huish Park, a result and performance which the Town boss believed did not reflect the squad’s ability.

“With that being the first game of the season we’ve got plenty of time to put it right, but we looked very short of where we were even a few days ago and on the day we were second best all over the field.

Yeovil are straight back in action as they face Gillingham at home in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, a chance for some to stake their claim for a starting berth according to Johnson.

“We had a great little crowd come in as well so hopefully they won’t give up on us just yet but they wouldn’t have recognised and I didn’t recognised the team that we put out there after a few good pre-season games here; there’s a lot more ability about our team than we showed today so we’ve got to chastise them and then pick them up and get them coming out to play another game against Gillingham."

“We will look forward to the two Gillingham games but until we do we’ve got to be concerned about a 3-0 defeat at home. I’m not concerned that the players are not going to be good enough because I’ve seen that, but the only concern is can those players play with no fear? Can they go out to actually play their best game and effect the game as individuals as well as a group?

“I think if it would have been a league game on Tuesday I would’ve left one or two out for the problem of them playing with a bit of fear, but anyway I’m going to make changes so we’ll have a look and give the ones who didn’t have a chance on Saturday a chance on Tuesday.”

“We didn’t do that today. The worry is that that happens again, but what we’ll have to do is bring out their best game, that’s going to be the big thing, if we can do that over two or three days then we’ve done our job.
