Manager Gary Johnson remains confident that his squad will adapt to the ‘Yeovil Town’ way after two opening defeats to the 2014-15 season.

The Glovers lost 3-0 at home to Doncaster Rovers in League One before Saturday’s league opponents Gillingham condemned Town to an early Capital One Cup exit on Tuesday.

However, Johnson believes a revenge-fuelled victory at Priestfield will kick start Yeovil’s season.

“I would hope that the players will feel that they owe them one after getting beat on our own patch and it is a game that we have got to get some points on the board from. We got beat in one league game and one cup game but you must not leave it too late to get your first few points on the board, just for your own confidence really.

“They’re a good bunch of lads and they’re good characters. Some of them have not played at this level yet and some certainly haven’t had a big career at this level so we’re having to teach as we move on.

“Certain players like Kieffer Moore for instance, who is still a baby as far as football is concerned, because he didn’t have an upbringing from a top youth system or an academy so we’re having to teach him as we go along.

“Because of our small squad it’s good for them that we have to keep giving opportunities to people because we’ve got to make them come through. We’ve had bad starts before and come strong so you can’t tell your public ‘don’t worry, everything will be alright’ when you’ve lost a couple but in your head as a manager you know there’s a lot more to come from us.”

Johnson signed 10 players over the summer and the Glovers boss is confident their ability will shine through.

“When we pick the team you’ll see what we’ve decided to do but at the moment we’re trying to help everyone find Yeovil Town’s game, that’s what we’re trying to do. Some of them haven’t played that before but when it comes together we’ll know.”
