New at Huish Park for 2022/23, we’ll be running our ‘community hero’ campaign.
Each week, the club will showcase an individual who is deemed a ‘community hero’ for their excellent work for the local area. The individual will place the match ball on a plinth ahead of kick-off.
Dave Rooks of Yeovil will be your Local Hero at the Wrexham game – Dave qualifies as a ‘Local Hero’ for having been a Scout Leader with Holy Trinity Scouts in Yeovil for 60 years, providing training and leadership to hundreds of Yeovil boys and girls having been a scout himself since the age of 9.
Dave is still continuing his role as an active leader with the cubs and scouts. He has seen some of his scouts earn their Duke of Edinburgh and also Queen scout award the highest accolade any scout can earn.
His full-time job was that of Optician Technician, working for John Hart’s partners in Prince’s Street, Yeovil. Until recently prior to retiring during the pandemic Dave was a dispensing optician in Bristol.
Dave’s a life-long Glovers supporter and remembers with affection watching Yeovil at the old Huish ground. He fondly remembers the time he won Penny on the ball taking home £31 all in copper.
He also has had the privilege to play at the old Huish and the new Huish Park. Dave’s favourite player as a boy growing up was goalkeeper, Morris Leather.
Dave is joined here today with his wife Joan for this proud moment.
