Ready to challenge experienced ‘keeper Stuart Nelson for a starting spot in Darren Way’s side, the 19-year-old is looking to add himself to a list of loan stoppers who’ve gone on to reach the highest level.
The Glovers have honed the talents of the likes of Alex McCarthy, Asmir Begovic, Marek Stech, Sam Johnstone and Wayne Hennessey during loan stints in the past.
After chatting to Blues team-mate Begovic prior to agreeing to the switch, Baxter found the decision an easy one to make.
“You can see the number of goalkeepers who’ve played here and are now playing at top level,” he told iFollow Glovers.
“Me and the gaffer talked about how many goalkeepers have come on loan spells and progressed, so it’s a great club to be a part of and the detail that goes into the work here is great.
“I’m really excited to be working with goalkeeper coach as well; both him and the manager were massive factors in me coming here over anywhere else.”
With more than 80 appearances under his belt from loan spells in the Vanarama National League, the Chelsea youngster is looking forward to the next step.
Following the 2017/18 season with Woking, Baxter picked up four end of season Player of the Year awards and is excited for his first taste of the EFL.
“I’m ambitious and I want to challenge myself. It’s not easy at any level you go into but I feel like I’m ready to play and challenge myself at this level.
“It’s the next step of my development – it can only be good for the club that there are keepers pushing for the shirt and I’ll come here and stake a claim to play that’s for sure.”
