Captain Jamie McAllister hopes to extend his stay at Huish Park after an “unbelievable” season in the Championship.

The 35-year-old wore the armband during Yeovil’s promotion winning campaign from League One and has been virtually an ever-present this season.

McAllister, who arrived in Somerset in the summer of 2012 is out of contract at the end of the season but hopes to remain with the Glovers.

“Of course I’m looking to keep playing, I’m fit and looking to carry on – age is just a number to me. I have played 38 games this season and I’m itching to keep going.

“Hopefully I will have a chat with the gaffer. I’d like to stay here but we will see what happens. I would like to continue here.”

Narrow defeat at home to Huddersfield on Easter Monday all-but ended Yeovil’s hopes of remaining in the English second tier bar a mathematical miracle, but the veteran defender believes it has been a great season nonetheless.

“Obviously the boys are gutted, just disappointed that it’s pretty much over. But over the last year or so the spirit in the camp has been brilliant with a great set of lads and I think we’ve done unbelievable with regard to some of the games. We’ve given a great account of ourselves over the season but just came up short.

“We want to go and win the next two games and we want to finish on a high for our personal pride and as a group we want to show, especially on Friday night in front of the cameras, that we are good enough to be here. We just came up short which is disappointing.

“A lot of people would’ve had us down before the start of the season and not to get as many points as we have and not for it to have been so close, which like I say is disappointing and frustrating but we’ve got to look to win the last few games, finish strongly and look to come back stronger next season.”
