Saturday 20th September | Enterprise National League | The Lamb Ground

The Glovers arrived in Staffordshire off the back of a dramatic late win against Woking but were unable to build on that result in a match dominated by set pieces and fine margins.

Webb made three changes to his starting XI, introducing Aaron Jarvis, Finn Cousin-Dawson and Byron Pendleton. From the opening exchanges it was clear that Yeovil would have to contend with a physical Tamworth side intent on turning long throws and corners into opportunities.

The hosts had the first clear chance when a delivery from the left found Digie, whose powerful effort was brilliantly stopped by Jed Ward low to his left.

Beck-Ray Enoru then enjoyed a lively spell, first seeing a glancing header deflected behind before testing the defence again with a follow-up strike after a half-clearance, which was blocked.

Yeovil’s best opportunity of the half came after Luke McCormick was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. From 25 yards, the midfielder curled a free kick narrowly over the bar, leaving Jas Singh untroubled.

Tamworth struggled to create further openings, but on the stroke of half-time Kwaku Donkor forced Ward into action from a tight angle to ensure the sides went in level at the break.

Half Time: Tamworth 0-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil made a change at half-time with new signing Andrew Oluwabori replacing James Plant. The Glovers began with greater intent, though Cousin-Dawson was cautioned early for a challenge on Manny Duku.

Josh Sims was first to threaten, cutting inside and curling an effort high over Singh’s goal. With an hour played, Junior Morias replaced Harvey Greenslade to add fresh legs in attack.

The Glovers’ best spell followed. On 65 minutes, a deep McCormick free kick found Morgan Williams, whose diving header was kept out by Singh at his near post. From the resulting corner, Kyle Ferguson climbed highest but failed to direct his header on target.

Tamworth, however, carried a constant threat from their direct play. Substitute Oliver Lynch came agonisingly close on 74 minutes when his effort deflected onto the crossbar. Moments later, the breakthrough arrived. A corner from the left caused a scramble in the six-yard box, and though Jake Wannell attempted to clear off the line, Digie bundled the ball home to give the Lambs the lead.

Yeovil responded by pressing forward in search of an equaliser. Ferguson tried his luck from distance but saw his shot fly over, before Webb made a final attacking change, introducing Tahvon Campbell for the injured Jarvis.

The Glovers’ last chance came deep into stoppage time when Oluwabori surged from his own half into the Tamworth penalty area. His low strike had Singh beaten but brushed the side-netting to leave Yeovil frustrated.

The defeat means Webb’s reign begins with a setback, though the Glovers showed glimpses of threat and resilience in a scrappy encounter dominated by set pieces.
