A dominant display across all departments saw the Young Glovers advance in the cup, with goals from George Geraghty, Archie Bryce, and a double from Ollie Hughes settling the matter.
In blustery conditions, the home side set about their work in blistering fashion when a clever backheel from Geraghty released Hughes, whose cross was put out for an early corner. From the resulting set piece, Blake Watts had a towering header cleared off the line, and in the ensuing melee, the referee awarded a penalty that was duly dispatched by Geraghty to make it 1–0.
Yeovil continued their devastating opening spell, with Archie Appleby teeing up Alec Thomas, whose shot was saved at full stretch by the visiting keeper. A trademark jinking run from Hughes then set up Geraghty, who saw his header drift past the post.
It felt as though a second goal for the hosts was coming, but Weston had a series of chances themselves, and Yeovil were indebted to a fine last-ditch tackle from midfielder Will Jones to halt a marauding run from the visitors’ number 9.
On the half-hour mark, the Young Glovers put together the move of the match when Hughes beat three defenders and squared to Geraghty, who played a perfectly placed return pass, allowing Hughes to smash it home and make it 2–0.
Former Yeovil player Krystian Woods was proving a handful with some darting runs down the left, but the home side were able to see out the half thanks to some resolute defending from the back line.
With the wind behind them at the start of the second half, Yeovil Town made another fast start, and Geraghty was denied a second when his curling shot from distance was acrobatically tipped onto the post by the visiting keeper.
In the 50th minute, the Young Glovers went further ahead when Bryce took a free kick from the left that evaded everyone and nestled into the far corner to make it 3–0.
On the hour mark, Hughes grabbed his second of the day when the keeper was caught in no man’s land outside his box, allowing the young midfielder to control a loose pass and clip the ball past an onrushing defender to make it 4–0.
Manager Matt Percival was able to introduce Ashton Brown, James Horrocks, Ethan Davies, and Filip Opalinski from the bench, and Yeovil continued their dominance. Brown curled a speculative effort just wide, while Bryce nearly doubled his tally when his free kick from distance smashed against the bar.
There was a steely determination from the home defence to record a second clean sheet of the season, with midfielder Denzil Gurung ably assisting the defensive unit in mopping up any late chances.
Fittingly, the last kick of the match was another strike from the outstanding Hughes, who was denied his hat-trick by a good save from the visiting keeper.
As the final whistle sounded, it was Yeovil Town who sealed a deserved place in the second round of the National League U19 Alliance League Cup, with the draw set to take place in the coming weeks.
