Saturday 29th November | Enterprise National League | Huish Park
The result lifts the Glovers above Boston United in the Enterprise National League table after a hard fought 2-1 triumph at Huish Park.
Both sides enjoyed early spells of possession in midfield, but clear chances were limited during the opening half hour as each defence stood firm.
Yeovil came closest to breaking the deadlock on 30 minutes when Michee Efete’s initial effort was parried into the path of James Plant inside the box. The midfielder struck low towards goal, but visiting goalkeeper Killian Barrett reacted sharply to make the save.
Boston then thought they had created a golden opportunity moments later. Dylan Hill’s pass released Lenell John Lewis, who slipped a through ball into the path of Frankie Maguire. The forward finished past Jed Ward, but the assistant referee’s flag denied the visitors.
As the half drew to a close Ward was called into action once more, producing an excellent stop to deny Maguire from the left side in what proved to be the closest chance of the first period.
Half-Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Boston United
The Glovers month long wait for a goal ended just seven minutes after the restart. Efete’s driven effort was blocked, but McCormick reacted quickest inside the penalty area, guiding the rebound into the net to claim the first goal of the Rowley era.
McCormick struck again on 78 minutes. A delivery from the right caused confusion in the Boston area, and when the visitors failed to clear, the midfielder was on hand at the back post to convert his second of the afternoon and extend Yeovil’s advantage.
Boston set up a tense finish with five minutes left of the ninety. Hill bundled the ball home during a goalmouth scramble to give the visitors late hope.
Five additional minutes were indicated by fourth official Harry Warner, but Rowley’s side showed determination and discipline to stand firm and secure a vital three points at Huish Park.
The Glovers now turn their attention to a long trip north as they prepare to face Hartlepool United next Saturday.
