Wednesday 20th August | Enterprise National League | Huish Park

Josh Sims opened the scoring on 36 minutes, before substitute Ben Wodskou struck late on to double the Glovers’ lead. Brackley pulled one back deep into stoppage time, but Mark Cooper’s side held firm to collect all three points.

The visitors started brighter and tested Jed Ward early, with Connor Hall forcing the Yeovil keeper into a smart stop after just seven minutes. Soon after, Michael Nottingham rose highest to meet a cross from the right, but his header bounced across the goal and wide.

Yeovil grew into the half as Brett McGavin fired narrowly over from distance, before Charlie Cooper had a shot deflected for a corner following good work from Sims.

The breakthrough arrived after 36 minutes. Tahvon Campbell broke down the right and delivered a low ball across goal, where Sims arrived at the far post to poke the ball into the net.

Brackley almost levelled before the break, as Morgan Roberts forced Ward into a superb diving save from distance, but Yeovil held on to their advantage.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1–0 Brackley Town

The Glovers looked more composed after the restart, while Brackley were limited to strikes from range. Cooper turned to his bench on the hour mark, with Aaron Jarvis replacing Junior Morias, and soon after Harvey Greenslade went close from close range after fine build-up play by Campbell.

With 22 minutes remaining, Wodskou replaced Campbell, and the on-loan forward would make a telling contribution late on. Before then, Ward had to stay sharp, diving left to deny substitute Bailey Hobson’s strike from the edge of the box.

Yeovil doubled their lead four minutes from time, when Wodskou latched onto a loose ball during a counterattack and fired a half-volley past Cameron Gregory to make it 2-0.

The visitors grabbed a consolation in the second of six added minutes, turning home from a crowded penalty area, but it was too little too late as Yeovil secured their first victory of the campaign.
