Mark Cooper’s side featured three trialists on the day – one from the start and two introduced from the bench—as preparations were finalised ahead of next weekend’s National League opener.

The Glovers started brightly and nearly took the lead inside the opening minutes. A wide free-kick from Charlie Cooper was met by Finn Cousin-Dawson, but the defender’s header drifted wide of Max Harris’ goal. Yeovil continued to pose a threat from set pieces, with another dangerous delivery forcing Harris to punch clear under pressure.

The early rhythm of the game was disrupted by a series of stoppages. Emlyn Lewis and Alex Whittle both required treatment inside the first 15 minutes, with Whittle replaced by Brett McGavin as a precaution following signs of a tight hamstring.

Yeovil thought they had broken the deadlock midway through the half. A short corner routine was worked cleverly to James Daly, who curled a stunning effort into the far corner – but the celebrations were short-lived as the offside flag was raised. Moments later, the Glovers created their best chance of the half when Morgan Williams sent a long ball forward, flicked on by Aaron Jarvis into the path of the Trialist, who broke free but put his shot wide of the target.

At the other end, Yeovil’s newest addition Jed Ward had little to do until the 28th minute, when he comfortably collected a low header from James Dodd. Weston-super-Mare began to enjoy a stronger spell late in the half. Louis Britton sent a header over the bar, and Sam Pearson saw a deflected strike tipped over well by Ward. Despite the flurry of chances, the sides went in level at the break.

Half-Time: Weston-super-Mare 0–0 Yeovil Town

The only change at the interval saw Charlie Cooper make way for Kyle Ferguson.

Yeovil started the second half with intent and almost found the opener through Brett McGavin, whose long-range effort whistled past the post following good build-up play from Byron Pendleton down the right-hand side.

However, clear chances were few and far between as the second period became a midfield battle. Just after the hour mark, the Glovers made a double substitution, with Josh Sims and Aaron Jarvis replaced by a Trialist and Tahvon Campbell.

The game’s defining moment came in the 67th minute. Louis Britton managed to get the wrong side of Jake Wannell and was brought down in the box. The referee pointed to the spot, and Luke Coulson stepped up to coolly send Jed Ward the wrong way to give the hosts the lead.

Yeovil responded with further changes as Harvey Greenslade replaced Jarvis immediately after the goal, and another Trialist came on for Pendleton shortly after.

With just over 10 minutes remaining, tensions flared. An off-the-ball altercation between Tahvon Campbell and Emlyn Lewis sparked a brief melee involving players from both sides. After the dust settled, Campbell, Lewis, and Will Dawes all received yellow cards.

Despite pressing in the closing stages, Yeovil couldn’t find a way through a resolute Weston-super-Mare defence. The home side saw out the remaining minutes without incident, consigning the Glovers to a narrow defeat to round off pre-season.

Yeovil now look ahead to the start of the Enterprise National League campaign, with Hartlepool United the visitors to Huish Park on Saturday 9th August.
