Jones Guides Charlton to Promotion
Sunday 25th May – Charlton Athletic 1-0 Leyton Orient
Nathan Jones, once a reliable full-back and later assistant manager at Yeovil, steered Charlton Athletic back to the Championship after several seasons in League One. A first-half free kick from Macaulay Gillesphey was enough to secure the win in a tight play-off final.
Part of Jones’ coaching team was former Glovers goalkeeper Stephen Henderson, who had two loan spells at Yeovil in 2010 and 2011. The victory marked a significant achievement for both men in their coaching journeys.
Wembley Joy for AFC Wimbledon’s Glovers Contingent
Monday 26th May – AFC Wimbledon 1-0 Walsall
AFC Wimbledon’s promotion-winning side had a strong Yeovil connection. Myles Hippolyte scored the decisive goal, while fellow former Glovers James Tilley and Josh Neufville played key roles in the final.
Off the pitch, Yeovil legend Terry Skiverton contributed to the success as assistant manager to Johnnie Jackson, bringing invaluable experience and leadership to the dugout.
Oldham Athletic Climb Back to the Football League
Sunday 1st June – Oldham Athletic 3-2 Southend United (AET)
Oldham Athletic completed a thrilling return to the EFL with an extra-time win over Southend United in the National League Play-Off Final.
Though former Yeovil midfielder Matt Worthington didn’t feature in the matchday squad, he played a part across the campaign as Oldham fought their way back to League Two after two years in non-league.
While Yeovil Town focus on their own revival, the success of so many former Glovers at Wembley in 2025 serves as a proud reminder of the talent and character nurtured at Huish Park.
